Arsenic in Chicken Feed

In 2006 it was reported that arsenic was found in chicken feed by manufacturer ’ Tyson’ foods as well as others. This week those findings regained traction as a subsidiary of Pfizer ( Alpharma ) said it was pulling the cancer causing chemical from its chicken feed in U.S. markets after FDA researchers detected a more dangerous form of arsenic in chickens fed the chemical. 3-Nitro aka roxarsone , a drug fed to chickens to help them gain weight and to prevent an intestinal disease called coccidiosis was found to have increased levels in the chickens livers.

The FDA, claims that the levels were low enough not to warrant a health risk.

FDA Quote;

“The inorganic form is more harmful than the organic form, and is a human carcinogen. Organic arsenic is not known to be carcinogenic. Organic arsenic is the form of arsenic that is the active ingredient in approved arsenic-based animal drugs, including 3-Nitro.”

This is a good reason to be a vegetarian. We have no clue what we are being told, feed, and offered.
